Biography: 14 Jan 2022

I do not know alot about my Uncle Wallis. My father told me Wallis was known as a tough man who drank heavily. The story is that he was drunk and accidentily caused Mabel to fall down the stairs while she was pregnant. As a result she could not have children.

After this incident, he is said to have cleamed up his act a little and no longer drank as heavily. He was still a tough person and did not have a lot of friends.

When I knew him, he had retired from the automobile business and owned a farm in the Dulaney Valley. It was about 20 acres and he kept sheep, horses and Horace the donkey.
He and Aunt Mabel had two beautifil horses that they rode avery day. He had a 1/4 mile track in the front of the house and rode there and up the road.

He was a real horse whisperer. He would take on thouroughbreds that had become aggresive and no longer raceable nor able to be held for stud. He had immense patience with them and could "gentle" them back to a normal status. His reputation was enormous and he took on horse from all over the country.

He also raised Montdale sheep. Based on what I saw him do with them, I think they thought he was one of them. Each year he would take a few to the Maryland State Fair, and for nearly 10 years that I know of, he won the blue ribbon for best in class.
