December 1887

Dec 1st This has been a very pretty day but right cold I have been sewing all day

2nd Penn went to the hill and brought May from Beckie's She says she will help me sew tomorrow morning

3rd May, Miss Molly and myself went to Chestertown this afternoon Eddie has gone to Baltimore tonight

4th This has been another very pretty day and write warm for December I went to church this morning Mr. Arters preached I have not been feeling very well today

5th It was raining early this morning but cleared off nice We got a good many of the clothes dry I have been poorly all day

6th  This has been another pretty day Most like spring We have had very little cold weather 

7th  Another pretty day and I had Company Mrs George Smith called on me this afternoon She looks well And hearty

8th The ladies of the Union Church have concluded to have a nite society We were to meet at Mrs. James Catlin tonight Penn and I went Biston Evans was there But there was some misunderstanding and we were the only ones but have spent a very pleasant evening Miss Evans was there from Sudlersville I hope she will meet next week and make a beginning We need something to awaken the people

Dec 9th This has been a very pleasant day but clouded up near evening we were going up to Church Hill tonight to church but Penn thought as it was cloudy it would be dark I was disappointed for I wanted to go They are having their extra meeting and I hear that they have been having very good meetings  Mrs. William Loller called on me this afternoon

10th We have had a very rainy day It began sometime last night and is still raining very fast There is an old saying that the sun shines every Saturday but I have not seen it today although it slacked up about noon but began again as hard as ever before night
Penn went to Church Hill after dinner took Miss Molly and Timmy She staid and wanted to keep him but he would not stay Jimmy went over to Chestertown and took the butter for me I done my baking this morning and had one of my strange feelings just before dinner have been laying down most all afternoon I only had one spell I feel better tonight The weather is very warm for December

11th It was very cloudy and damp this morning and as I was not feeling very well I did not go to church Pen and the children went I expected to see Eddie today but was disappointed Jimmy went up after him but he was not feeling well and thought he had better not come Miss Annie H brought Miss Molly down here this afternoon

12th It was cloudy this morning but cleared up nice I went out to Mrs. Wodall to see if I could get her daughter to come and help me sew a few days she is to come tomorrow

13th Miss Alice Wodall came today We began Lena's dress We went up to church at C Hill tonight they are having a nice meeting Mr. W preached tonight The house was near full Mr. Arters said that they had a conversion every night God grant that they may have many more

14th We killed and picked our Turkeys Today have 25 to sell  This has been a pleasant day

15th This has been a rainy day It began in the night Pen took the turkeys up to Sudlersville and the children and Miss Molly had to walk to school They had 30 schoolers but some of the schools near Sudlersville had none and the teacher went home

16th This has been a pleasant day Miss Woodall was Poorly and went home she got Lena's dress done and a coat for Charlie Miss Molly is not here tonight She went to Centerville today to the teachers meeting and as it is Friday she will stay At Church H until Sunday It seems strange tonight She away and Lena is at Chestertown she is to stay until Sunday Jimmy took her over today Annie went but came back with Jimmy They are getting ready for Christmas went over to get their presents hope that Eddie will be home by this time tomorrow night I received a letter from Lou Eckul tonight

17th This is a very stormy night It was cloudy all day began snowing this afternoon I want to Chestertown after Eddie It snowed real fast before I got there We left as soon as Eddie could get washed and dressed the wind is blowing hard It sounds like winter

18th  We went to church Eddie went home with Mrs. Stenard is to go from there to Chestertown tonight Mr. Arters came home with us to dinner there is some snow on the ground this Mrs Stenard came to church in a sleigh

19th This has been a pretty day but very muddy we got our clothes all dirty

20th This has been a cloudy and part of the time rainy day

21st We met at Miss Catlins to organize a nite society There were 17 there who joined I hope we will have a large society and do much good Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson were here to tea They went with us to Mrs. Caltins This has been a pretty day

22nd I am tired tonight I made most of my Christmas cakes today

23rd I went to Chestertown this morning Miss Molly went with me This afternoon we went to the mill with Mr. Jester She is to stay all night

24th I did not go away today but stayed home and got ready for Christmas I am expecting Eddie home tonight I have the presents ready for the family Miss Molly came home with Pen today 

25th Well Christmas is over Eddie came home last night he gave each of us a present Miss Molly gave us all one and we all gave each other something Pen took Miss Molly at me to Churchill He went to the M. E.  church We went to the Episcopal but I like my church the best

26th  The children went down to Rolphs Wharf to a party this afternoon they say they had a nice time Miss Molly started to Baltimore today I took Eddie over to town this afternoon My woman left today I want to get someone this winter

29th There is quite a change in the weather It blowed up cold in the night Mr. Loller moved this afternoon Pen helped him this morning This afternoon Pen Lizzie and myself went up to Round Top but we didn't get any thing fixed up for it was so cold and we did not get up there until late we want to go tomorrow

30th This has been another cold day we went up with Lizzie to her new home Got a good many things fixed Got our dinner and left there about 3 o'clock 

31st I went to Chestertown this afternoon heard some sad news when I got there Mazie Wright was drowned He was skating in the pond the ice broke they tried hard to save him but could not do it The family take it very hard they just brought him here to his Fathers  as I went there with the butter I feel very sorry for them I called on Mrs Armstrong she bought some butter me Miss Molly came home from Baltimore today John N and Johnny are here tonight
