April 1887

1st Well this does not look much like spring the ground covered with snow and it is still snowing, Eddie went over to town to take the butter Sister Lizzie came home with him it was so stormy I did not expect her but John was away and she thought it was a grand time to come.

2nd It snowed some this morning but cleared off this afternoon Lena made a snowman Pen and Jimmie went to the Hill Lizzie and I staid home and sewed

3rd We went to Church Lizzie went with us had no preaching, we have not got lesson leaves for the [sholl] (school?) Eddie took Lizzie home after supper. I miss her

4th When Lizzie got home John was there but had not been home long Eddie went to church I have no woman her time is up I will have to look for another one this has been a pretty day

5th Our new minister called on us today I think I will like him Mr. Massy came with him, I got a woman to wash it snowed today but the clothes dried

6th the same one came and [ironed] got done before night

7th I wrote to Pap today there was a woman came to see about living with me I expect I will get her

8th This is good friday, I went to Chestertown saw Dr., went to see Lizzie did not stay long only took 8 lb of butter to Mr. Wright came home in time for dinner, went to Beckies in the afternoon spent a very pleasant time came home for supper I mailed Paps letter today one to Aunt Rachael yesterday.

9th I went to Church Hill called on Miss Mollie, she was poorly, I had the headach and went I got home laid down

10th this is Easter I went to church I was not well but was anxious to go our new minister preached I think I will like him, he came home with us and took dinner He took his his text in Job /4 ch/ 4 verse (if a man die shall he live again)

11th we sent Walter near Centerville today to bring a woman and her clothes she left her trunk here she is to come tomorrow

12th well the woman came her name is Mary Johnson we washed today I cannot tell yet how I will like her

13th It has been cooler today Mrs Hurlock and Miss Mollie cam to see us and took dinner

14th I have been sewing most of the day went over to see Miss Toller a little while this afternoon

15th this is my birthday. I went to Chestertown May was in Baltimore Lizzie had the headache I felt sorry for her no one to do anything for her and staid with her as long as I could near dark when I got home

16th I went to Church Hill today

17th I went to Church had no preaching, we had the lesson leaves for the school

18th We have had quite a rainy day, and it finished up with a thunder gust and a rainbow. Clement went to school today for the first I hope he will be a good boy and learn fast, Our neighbor, Mr. Smith is married just brought his wife home saturday the 16th another neighbor Mr Barton lost his wife yesterday

19th I went to the funeral of Mrs. Barton Mr Asters preached it has been cloudy and very cool

20th there was quite a frost this morning but most of the day it has been warm, I made out to see Mrs. Catlin but as she was not at home I went down to J. Tucker's and spent a pleasant afternoon was home in time for supper, Lend wast home with the Austin girls, Eddie went to bed feeling poorly I hope he will be better tomorrow

21st This has been a very pretty day and quite warm

22nd I went to Chestertown today, it was warm this morning but clouded up about noon rained first before I got home I took Lena and Jimmie Dr. C did not give me any medicine I found Lizzie well, Eddie says he feels better and don't want any more medicine soon

23 I wrote yesterday that I went to Chestertown but the Dr did not think I needed any medicine, but I was taken sick in the might had to send Eddie over to see him this morning he got me medicine have been taking it every hour today I have been real poorly all day but I believe I fell a little better tonight

24th I did not go to church this morning for I was not able, Pen and some of the children went, Clement and Jimmie staid home the cook was home too.

25th I am still poorly Lena staid home from school so she could help about the work, it has been raining some today, but we washed

26th It rained again today I felt better today Annie staid home and Lena went to school I hope I will soon be able to go to work, I had some supper they tasted right good I ate more supper than I have since last week

27th I went to Chestertown today to see the Dr. as I had no medicine he gave me some more, I hope I will soon be well, I feel better tonight I went in to see Lizzie a little while she was well had two men white washing

28th I went up to see Beckie she is poorly has a sore eye, I had to leave soon for it began raining I was sorry to leave for we didn't get done talking

29th I went over to Chestertown today to take my butter did not go to see the Dr. as I have plenty medicine staid with Lizzie until after six Oclock Budd came home with us, Jim went over with me, May was at Mrs. Anthony's sewing that left no one home for Lizzie, I think she has got a lonely time

30th this has been a cloudy week it has rained every day excepting today and has been very cool its warmer tonight, went up to Church Hill this morning to Mrs Evan's funeral, took dinner with Miss Mollie Hurlock, came home and had an early supper and went down to Rolf's Wharf went to see Mrs [Dunbroceo], Mrs. Riggins and Miss Taylor
